The Vee Dub Christmas Cruz 2021 – Portishead Edition is back on Saturday 11th December raising money again for The Grand Appeal, the official charity of the Bristol Children’s Hospital! Taking part is simple – just decorate your VW with tinsel, lights, baubles, Christmas trees, Santa Claus, elves, stickers, anything festive! Your imagination (and the laws of physics!) are the only limitations! This year you can even join our Just Giving Team and set up your own fundraising page to get your friends, family and work colleagues to support your efforts – just go to https://shinebright.justgiving-sites.com/, create your fundraising page and then join our Christmas Dubs – VDF team. All donations will go directly to the charity and will be recorded against our grand total. You can also just share our generic Just Giving page and ask people to donate directly to the main fund.
As with previous years we will be meeting at the Long Ashton Park & Ride site from where we will convoy out along the usual route through Failand, Tickenham, Clevedon and then into Portishead. All VW’s are welcome to join us – vans, cars, air cooled, water cooled, as long as they have a VW badge! Please note that our Cruz events this year are ticket only and you must register and purchase your ticket in advance. Our team will be at the Park & Ride from 3:30pm onwards and the Cruz will be looking to leave at approx 4:45pm. You must be at the start area by 4:30pm. The route map and video will be published on the Facebook event in due course.
In a bid to raise more money for The Grand Appeal this year we will be doing a few bits of Christmas Cruz merch – a few different cuddly mascots & mugs – these will be printed with the Cruz logo of your choice and will be available for collection at the start point of each Cruz (we will not be posting them out in advance). Any left unclaimed after the Cruz’s will be donated to the children at the hospital. We also have a limited number of Christmas Cruz flags – both the flags and the mascots can be found in the shop! Proceeds from all these merch sales will be added to the charity donation total.
We have listened to your feedback from previous years and this year we plan to sign the route more clearly with key junctions being manned by volunteers to direct you all. We will be accompanied again by the motorcycle escort teams from Midlands Bike Marshals and Motorcycle Escorts South West to help keep everyone as safe and together as possible. As with all events in the current climate please understand that we will only go ahead if the restrictions allow us to and we have approval from the councils, Highways and the Police. In the event that we are not able to run, your Cruz ticket fee will be translated into tickets for our Christmas competition and the money will still be donated to The Grand Appeal.
Our Christmas Cruz’s would be much harder to run and less money would be donated to the charity if three very special companies were not helping us – Simply Surf Bus, Bristol Detailing Supplies and Impact Flags. A massive thank you to them for supporting us – please support them by liking and following their social media feeds where you will find links to their websites.
Cruz FAQ’s
Q) Is the entry fee per person or per vehicle?
A) The entry fee is per vehicle.
Q) I want to donate more than £10 to the charity, how can I do this?
A) You can make extra donations to our Just Giving Page or we will have buckets at the start & finish points.
Q) I don’t want to cover my Dub in lights, can I still join in?
A) There are many ways to make your Dub festive – exterior flashing festive lights are optional!
Q) Can kids come along?
A) Kids of all ages are welcome to join in the fun.
Q) Do I have to wear a santa suit / Christmas fancy dress?
A) We encourage everyone taking part to get into the festive spirit not just with their Dubs but with their own clothes too – Santa suits, Christmas jumpers, reindeer hats are all optional but actively encouraged!
Q) I don’t have a Dub but would still like to take part – how can I do this?
A) The Cruz is only open to VW vehicles, however we would love you to still come along and spectate along the route. We are also looking for volunteers to help with bucket collecting along the route and marshals to direct the Cruz at key points (what better way to see every vehicle!). If you would like to volunteer, please email info@veedubfamily.org and we will get back to you!
Q) I want to volunteer to help direct the Cruz or shake a bucket along the route, what do I do?
A) If you would like to volunteer, please email info@veedubfamily.org and we will get back to you!
Q) Can I bring my dog?
A) Yes, dogs are welcome providing they are kept on leads at the start and finish points and are safely secured in your vehicles whilst driving.
Q) What happens at the end of the Cruz – do I need to hang around?
A) When we pull up at the finish point it is totally up to you if you would like to park up or head off home. A lot of members of the public will come to see the vehicles at the finish point. After the Saturday Cruz we are also going to do a drive-by of the Children’s Hospital after the main Cruz (leaving the Lake Grounds around 7pm) and we would love as many people as possible to take part in this!
